The North West's landscape has been remarkably unaffected by the passage of time and is a striking mixture of coastal beauty, ramblings hills, mountains and lovely lakes, all which provide an extremely interesting location for any visitor.
If you are interested in poetry, the North West is a must, as it contains Sligo - the birthplace of one of Ireland's greatest poets, W.B. Yeats. You can visit the Yeats building and also visit his grave at Drumcliff churchyard.

Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery, Sligo
The largest and one of the most important megalithic sites in Europe, with over 60 tombs. The oldest pre-dates Newgrange by 700 years and is older than the pyramids.
Donegal Castle
Built by the O'Donnell chieftan in the 15th century, rebuilt in Jacobean style in 16th century by Sir Basil Brooke
Glenveagh National Park and Castle, Donegal
16,500 hectares of mountains, lakes, glens and woods with a large herd of red deer. The central feature is a 19th century castle surrounded by the famous Glenveagh Gardens.
Ards Forest Park, Donegal
Probably the most beautiful and certainly the most varied of Ireland's forest parks.
Model Arts And Niland Gallery, Sligo
A most impressive collection of 20th century Irish artists, currently comprising over 250 works, among them Jack B Yeats, Paul Henry, Maimie Jellet and Louis Le Brocquy.
Parkes castle, Leitrim
A 17th Century fortified manor house which has recently been restored using Irish oak and traditional craftsmanship.
Sligo Abbey
The site contains a great wealth of carvings including Gothic and Renaissance tomb sculpture, well preserved cloisters and the only sculptured 15th century high altar to survive in any Irish monastic church.
Drumcliff Church And Visitor Centre, Sligo
Burial site of William Butler Yeats.
Carrickmacross Lace Gallery, Monaghan
Enchanting Irish craft dating back to 1820, this tradition is now carried on by the Carrickmacross Lace Co-op.
